Kai Aareleid is a short story writer, poet, translator and novelist. Shemade her debut in 2011 with the novel Vene veri(Russian Blood), about the wife of a diplomat stationed in St. Petersburg, interwoven with the history of Kai’s own ancestors. Kai has also translated into Estonian works by (i.a) Bruce Chatwin, Paulo Coelho and Roberto Bolaño. Her second novel, Burning Cities, in English translation by Adam Cullen (2018), tells the story of a family living in the battle-scarred southern Estonian town of Tartu shortly after World War II.
