Marek Sindelka

Born in 1984 in the Bohemian town of Polička, Šindelka attended Charles University in Prague, majoring in Cultural Studies, and the film academy, FAMU, where he studied screenwriting. He debuted as a writer with the poetry collection Strychnine and Other Poems (Strychnin a jiné básně, 2005), for which he was awarded the prestigious Jiří Orten Prize. He has published four volumes of prose since: the novels Aberrant (Chyba, 2008) and Material Fatigue (Únava materiálu, 2016), and the short story collections Stay with Us(Zůstaňte s námi, 2011), the latter two both receiving the Magnesia Litera Prose Book of the Year Award, and The Map of Anna (Mapa Anny, 2014). A regular contributor on literature to newspapers and magazines, Šindelka lives in Prague.
