Nino Haratischwili

Nino Haratischwili is an award-winning German-Georgian playwright, novelist, theatre director and political activist, living in Berlin and born in Tiblisi. She has received numerous awards for her epic novels and plays. Her subjects are families and friendships in the collapsing Soviet empire and emerging independent Georgia, as in The Eighth Life (2019) longlisted for the International Booker Prize, and The Lack of Light (2025). After working as a theatre director in Hamburg, she published her first novel Juja in 2010, and writes in German. She is the 2026 UCL European Writer in Residence.
